ALLINA HEALTH
ALLINA HEALTH HAS ALIGNED ITS VACCINE DISTRIBUTION EFFORTS AROUND FOUR CORE PRINCIPLES:
At Allina Health, we know that in order to advance health equity, we have to work differently. Because of this, we are intentionally adding an equity lens to our COVID-19 vaccine distribution strategy by:
• Listening to key internal and external stake holders;
• Monitoring data and responding to visible disparities and
opportunities for improvement; and
• Looking to our long-standing community partners for guidance.
A COVID-19 equity response team was formed before vaccine distribution began in order to uncover and respond to systemic gaps that present barriers to access and further perpetuate health inequities. The group is made up of DEI, clinical, spiritual care, and community engagement leaders and has since become part of the core vaccine planning team.
LISTENING AND LEARNING TO INFORM ACTIONS
Allina Health understood early on that to be effective in our vaccine outreach, we needed to create opportunities to learn from those who have been most closely impacted by COVID-19 and have suffered from historic inequities in the health care system. We started with our own employees of color by hosting listening sessions to learn about what might contribute to vaccine hesitancy and how to increase acceptance. We continued our listening and learning by joining Blue Cross Blue Shield and Marnita’s Table community conversations. That valuable knowledge has helped to shape our vaccine efforts including
the importance of communicating through trusted messengers, translating information, simplifying language and solving for barriers to access, like transportation. We continue to listen and make adaptations to our strategy to serve in order to better serve our employees, patients, and community.
