MAYO CLINIC
MAYO CLINIC HAS A LONG-STANDING ENGAGED COMMITMENT TO SERVING VULNERABLE HEALTH CARE POPULATIONS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY AND REGION.
Mayo Clinic is part of the Rochester Healthy Community Partnership (RHCP). RHCP is a longstanding partnership serving Rochester and the surrounding communities for the past 17 years. It is comprised of more than 40 academic and community organizations, including Mayo Clinic, Olmsted Medical Center, Olmsted and Mower County Public Health, Alliance of Chicanos, Hispanics, and Latin Americans (ACHLA), Intercultural Mutual Assistance Association (IMAA), Somali American Social Service Association (SASSA), and Rochester Public Schools, in addition to many other academic and community organizations. In addition, Mayo Clinic has a robust program for Employee Resource Groups (MERGs) that are formed around a common dimension of diversity. MERGs may focus on traditional diversity dimensions such as ethnicity, age and gender. They may also include such groups as veterans, single/working parents, or the disabled. At Mayo Clinic, these groups were formerly known as diversity networking or diversity interest groups. Mayo Clinic will leverage these groups
to help ensure all patients and employees are supported through the vaccine process.
In March 2020, RHCP initiated daily touchpoints between physicians and community leaders and organization to facilitate the bidirectional flow
of COVID-19 information and understanding / addressing barriers. Multimodal communication tools were utilized, and content made available in six languages. In November 2020, this successful bidirectional communication framework was deployed to gauge vaccine readiness and hesitancy in our vulnerable communities and to ensure voices from vulnerable communities were at the table and engaged in the development of culturally tailored vaccination strategies.
