 CHILDREN’S MINNESOTA
Children’s Minnesota is the essential pediatric clinical resource in our community protecting kids and families from COVID-19 and the place to turn for the most relevant, up-to-date and easy-to-understand information related to the COVID-19 vaccine. We are actively planning for how Children’s Minnesota can develop a trustworthy partnership to increase access and understanding
of the COVID-19 vaccine with families in communities who are at high risk of being impacted by COVID-19, such as patients of color, LGBTQI, and medically complex patients. These families have barriers to social mitigation and access to healthcare, and are more susceptible to impacts of COVID-19 due to the social and economic effects of racism.
• The Children’s Minnesota Vaccine Operations Committee partnered closely with our Ethics Prioritization Advisory Panel (EPAP) to help ensure fair and equitable distribution of Children’s Minnesota vaccine allocation to our employees. The EPAP includes 11 voting members and three non-voting members, all representatives of Children’s Minnesota clinical and support care areas. The panel first established prioritized groups for allocation
of limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine within Minnesota Department of Health and Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for priority groups to be vaccinated in phase 1A.
• We have done substantial education to all staff, but did special outreach with our departments that have greater people of color. We have done Q and A sessions with departments who may have more vaccine hesitancy per our influenza vaccine data, such as the environmental services, respiratory care and central processing departments. These proved very successful in having people express their fears and feel heard. Our COVID-19 Vaccine Grand Rounds was a record breaking 828 attendees. This Grand Rounds has also been shared widely with our staff and their families as has our Pedscast on the subject of understanding how mRNA vaccines work.
HERE IS A SUMMARY OF HOW CHILDREN’S MINNESOTA IS ACTIVELY ADDRESSING COVID-19 VACCINE EQUITY:
